App Smackdown: Headspace

 APP SMACKDOWN: HEADSPACE

Headspace is a mindfulness app, that  contains four categories to toggle between: Meditate, Sleep, Move, and Focus. Staring with mediate that offer guided meditations that focus on topics around like grief, confidence, anxiety, and even stressful moments. Sleep consists of guided sessions and sleep-casts, along with nighttime meditations with short breathing exercises. Move is one the newest offerings on headspace, that contains low, medium, and high impact workouts ranging form 10 to 30 minutes long. Though the classes aren’t entirely focusing on intensity they focus on modules, breathing, and mindfulness while doing the workouts. The focus tab is playlists of music and mediation to help you focus. Along with nature sounds, and playlists that are curated by celebrities.

As a future healthcare provider and a current student there will be constant stressors and factors where we have a difficult time controlling our emotions and maintaining stability in life. Headspace allows for flexibility and you can choose what you want and how long you want to do it. By being able to just wind down for a few minutes can help recharge and regain your focus. It can promote positive thinking and reduce emotional reactivity. It makes it easy for everyone to just to test the waters out of mindfulness and meditation.

  1. Having heard about Headspace a couple of times, reading more about what the app is all about has really caught my attention. With its main focus in bringing mindfulness to its users, it can for sure be used in all types of settings. As students ourselves, this is a great way for us to relax and be able to wind-down when feeling stressed out or tired. We have to remember that we have to take care of ourselves first, our emotional, physical, and mental state matter. With Headspace, we are able to have a guide in being able to look after our well-being and knowing our limits. Even within a classroom setting, educators are able to take some time out of the school day to have students relax and forget about classwork for a moment.

  2. Hello Tiziana, I've personally never heard of Headspace before and this sounds like something that I would use on a day-to-day basis. I get very stressed out easily and anxious which always makes it hard for me to sleep at night. Normally it takes me about 30-40 minutes to finally fall asleep at night. I used to meditate a lot but eventually fell away from doing it but having an app that can help with that, focus, movement, and sleep all in one is great. It is easy for us to really stop taking care of ourselves and I think this is a good app to help take better care of yourself.

  3. I always thought about using Headspace, since I have seen so many ads for it on Youtube and TikTok, but I just never got around to actually doing it. Now after reading this, I might actually look into it. I feel like the "Focus" mode would help me a lot with having background noise while doing schoolwork. It would probably benefit me in terms of calming anxiety as well. I think overall though, it could be helpful for anyone to have because everyone has one of those moments where they need a boost or a break after a long day.

  4. Headspace is an app that lets you relax and take time to yourself. Most people often do not give time to themselves to sit back and rest. When it comes to working it can be difficult to find time to enjoy your own company. Considering it offers meditation is great for those who want to learn how to ease the stress off their shoulders. I love how it creates playlists that are curated by celebrities which is so cool. It is amazing to see an app where one can unwind. The four categories that are in the app really help with mental health which is what my profession social work focuses on. I love the many exercises and lessons that are in the app to show how to properly relax.
